Klett World Languages Award for Innovative K–12 German Programs

About the Award

The Klett World Languages Award for Innovative K–12 German Programs recognizes U.S. schools and districts that are making a real difference for German language learning. In partnership with the American Association of Teachers of German (AATG), this award honors programs that spark student interest, grow enrollment, and build pathways to global citizenship.

What’s the Award?

One outstanding K–12 school or district will receive:

  • $1,000 USD to support the growth or sustainability of its German program
  • Official recognition on the Klett World Languages and AATG websites
  • A Certificate of Excellence celebrating the achievement

Who Can Apply?

Open to all public, private, and charter K–12 schools or districts in the United States that:

  • Offer German language programs (new or established)
  • Have implemented creative strategies to increase enrollment or launch/revive programs

Why Apply?

This award is designed to highlight and support schools that:

  • Bring original and creative approaches to German education
  • Achieve measurable results in student engagement and enrollment growth
  • Create inclusive, accessible, and sustainable language programs

How to Apply

Submit a PDF proposal (max. 5 pages) that includes:

  • Program description and educational context
  • Innovations implemented
  • Evidence of impact (e.g., enrollment data, testimonials)
  • Plan for sustainability
  • Contact information for the program coordinator
