Alba y Gael and the 5 Cs

Communication

Communication is at the core of ALBA Y GAEL's pedagogical approach. The ultimate goal is for students to acquire communication skills, and ALBA Y GAEL exposes students to real-life experiences that practice the three modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretative, and presentational.

Culture

Culture from throughout the Hispanic world is presented across the units. The main characters are Alba, a girl from Spain, and Gael, a boy from Mexico. They share stories and experiences from their own cultures and encounter characters from other cultures. This cross-cultural focus helps students become open-minded learners who make connections with other communities.

Connections

Students establish connections with other subjects and reinforce what has already been learned. Mathematics, art, music, social studies, and science, as well as other subjects and topics, are all part of children’s experiences when they learn Spanish with ALBA Y GAEL.

Comparisons

ALBA Y GAEL’s family and friends introduce children to the diversity of the Spanish-speaking world. Through these experiences, children develop a deeper understanding of their own culture and language while learning to value different Spanish-speaking cultures and the variety within the Spanish language itself.

Communities

ALBA Y GAEL has been created for learners who will be part of multilingual and multicultural communities in a global society. Because of this, ALBA Y GAEL offers activities that connect language learners with the world outside the classroom.
