MAPAS is a program aimed at North American high school students learning Spanish at the introductory level. Its innovative design follows a project-based, content-focused approach. Its main goal is to stimulate students to build knowledge through explorative and expansive learning. The Spanish classroom becomes a space where students develop 21st-century skills, such as collaboration, creativity, critical thinking, and communication.
The Student Edition of REPORTEROS features six units that immerse students in the cultures and traditions of Spanish-speaking countries through the eyes of "reporteros" and "reporteras." This communicative, proficiency-oriented program emphasizes real-world Spanish, enhancing language skills through authentic reporting and interactive activities available also on The KWL Hub. Students engage in interpretive, presentational, and interpersonal communication while exploring diverse cultural topics.
The Workbook contains an abundance of activities to practice and expand the grammar and the vocabulary presented in the Student Edition. All the activities are presented as tearable print-outs.
The Spanish Hub is a platform offering digital content and resources for students and teachers who work with MAPAS. It is designed with a clear purpose in mind: to improve teaching and learning experiences in K-12 environments with engaging content and helpful, user-friendly tools.
The platform offers easy access to a vast array of material in different formats to help students better grasp and practice contents, build their skills, develop cultural insights, and meet learning objectives. The Spanish Hub is easy, flexible and intuitive for all users.
As more and more institutions move into the digital world, it is important for us to offer digital content in an interface that is intuitive and straightforward for all types of users and 100% web-based and browser friendly, as well as compatible with all smartphones and tablets via an application that allows instructors and students to work both offline and online at any time and from any location.
Among its many new features, we would like to draw your attention to a particular resource that sets MAPAS apart from other programs: textos mapeados and textos locutados available in different varieties of Spanish.
These texts have been transformed into “roadmaps” for students with the following three elements highlighted and color-coded:
By using this feature, students can exercise the recognition, acquisition and production of a linguistic repertoire that goes beyond simple words, allowing them to communicate with greater fluency and accuracy from the very beginning.
These texts are read aloud by Spanish-speakers in four different varieties of Spanish: from Colombia, Mexico, Spain, and the Caribbean (Puerto Rico and Cuba).
This feature allows students to listen to the text while they read along, listen after they have read the text themselves, or practice and check their own Spanish pronunciation, among many other possibilities.
